I haven’t heard a good hip-hop break up song in a while, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the new Prie video for his single “It’s Cool”, which came out last February. Prie is one of the few emcees from Hawaii that I’m aware of, and this Aaron Kai directed video was also filmed there, in Hilo.
The song is touching, honest and well executed — important ingredients in any piece of art aiming to provoke an emotional response. Everyone can relate to this shit. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone who hasn’t had their heart stepped on at least once or twice in their life.
“It’s Cool” can be found on the Hawaiian emcee’s We Fly HI 2 mixtape.
